If you have some bittersweet chocolate, you can finely chop it and add about a cup or so to the batter; stir it into the dry mix before adding the wet ingredients. Mini or regular chocolate chips work too. You can add a packet of chocolate fudge instant pudding also, which adds to the flavor and makes it a denser, moister cake, more like homemade than mix. The frost with a nice chocolate buttercream and drizzle with ganache!
put in more vanilla ensense in,,,, i swear it works i did it once by accident and it tasted way more chocletty
you can add a package of chocolate pudding cooked kind to the mix for a moist chocolate texture to the cake
you can melt chocolate bittersweet cut up best u can and melt with heavy cream or butter half a stick in a double boiler and add to the cake mix blending in slowly you can add chocolate chips or chunks to the cake
make it two layer cake and add chocolate pudding to center between cakes
add chocolate cocoa powder to heavy cream and cover cake with chocolate cream add chocolate chips or jimmies on top or chocolate cookie crumbs on top
Well I can answer that.
Make the cake from scratch. It literally takes only seconds longer than a box mix and you know exactly what went into it. Once you start baking from scratch (remember there is no real time savings) you won’t want to eat boxed cakes again!
I have a site I write about cakes. http://www.birthday-cake-central.com is the name. On the recipe page you can print out the chocolate cake recipe and the chocolate frosting recipe. Both are super chocolaty and don’t last very long around my house!
Keep this in mind. Not all cocoa’s are the same. You will want to use what is called a Dutch processed cocoa to get the super chocolate cake. It is a very long and complicated explanation of how Dutch processed is different than non Dutch processed. Just take my word for it. Dutch processed cocoa will bring out a very rich chocolate flavor. When you mix this with the semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate in the recipe, hold on!! Top it off with the chocolate frosting and OH BABY!
Recent tests by Cooks Illustrated rated Nestle, Hersey’s and Ghirardelli cocoa’s as not really suitable at all for baking. If you can find it get Callebaut or Droste Dutch processed chocolate. I do have these in an online link on my store, but get it from your store if you are in a hurry.
