Q&A: What kind of frosting should I make?
Question by curiousgirl07: What kind of frosting should I make?
Today is my sister-in-law’s birthday. My brother is making her a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting today. Over the weekend, we will be getting together to celebrate her birthday with her, and I am making cupcakes. My brother suggested that I make “something different,” but then told me I should make chocolate cupcakes because she really likes my chocolate cake. So I need a different kind of frosting. We do peanut butter frosting a lot, and I have made Oreo frosting lately. Any ideas for something new that would go well with chocolate? Thanks!

It wont work as it will be a soft frosting, you will need to use proper chocolate so it will go hard in fridge. The hardest frosting with cocoa powder would be made with marscaponi cheese icing sugar and cocoa, but it will still be quite soft sorry.

Definitely!! These are just two recipes I found. You can also just up the amount of powdered sugar you use if you would like it sweeter. The dark Chocolate is a wonderful classy taste. It is for more mature tastes though. Although my kids love dark chocolate.

It’s not a big difference, but plain chocolate is better because you will get a more natural taste from it, and it’s also easier to make with plain chocolate.

You could totally use chocolate syrup! I tried this recipe and it was really good 🙂
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter (no substitutions), room temperature
1/2 cup sifted unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup chocolate syrup
3 cups confectioners’ sugar, sifted (measure out 3 cups before sifting)
1 tablespoon whipping cream or half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Mix butter, cocoa powder, and chocolate syrup in a large mixing bowl. Beat together at a low speed just until combined.
Add the confectioners sugar, whipping cream, and vanilla. Use low speed until the sugar is mixed in. Then increase to medium speed and beat 1 minute until mixture is smooth and easily spreadable. If it’s too thick add a little more whipping cream. If too thin add a little more sugar.
